The role:

The Europe reporter will join their busy, real-time newsdesk, ensuring they deliver accurate, balanced, well written articles to deadline. Reporting to the UK-based Europe editor, a key focus will be EU chemicals management policy and the actions of the EU institutions, member states, business organisations, companies and NGOs. They will also help cover developments at member state level, and voluntary programmes by Europe-based businesses.

Maintaining their reputation for informative, well crafted, accurate and timely content, you will frequently attend press conferences, workshops and other events in Brussels and elsewhere.

News writing is the primary task but you will also write occasional features and suggest ideas and contacts to colleagues on other newsdesks and other functions within the company, such as the events department.

The candidate:

You will be an ambitious and talented journalist with excellent English language writing skills and pride in producing copy that needs little editing. You will be a natural networker, and have the ability and drive to rapidly learn about the complex agenda of chemicals management and regulation, and the business and scientific debates that surround it. While not essential, language skills, especially French and German, would be an advantage.


Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • researching and writing news and features
  • Plugging into the Brussels policy/lobbying scene and establish excellent contacts in key organisations
  • Attending press conferences and other events in Brussels on a regular basis, and events elsewhere as required
  • Moderating or chairing conference sessions and webinars
  • Deputising for the Europe editor when needed

Editorial team members work full time from home but we hold regular face-to-face meetings in London.
